Here we go...

Ok, so here's the plan...

I love to write, but I get cold feet about it. My fiance doesn't get my interest in romance novels, and I'm a little isolated as a stay at home mom. My friends live far away now, and have their own lives going on, it's not like it was when I first started writing and we used to critique each other all the time.
I also have a serious problem with motivation. I'll get started on a story that's bouncing around in my head, plan it out, do some research for it, and then I just stall. I need something to keep me going, plus I need editorial opinions, and to top it all off, I have not the first clue about how to get published, other than randomly sending my work off and hoping I won't get a rejection letter.

So... I had a blog on here a long time ago that I neglected, but I still enjoy the idea of getting instant feedback, so I thought I might try to involve the blogger community with my work. My idea is to post my writing, chapter by chapter, until I have something that's complete. What I ask of any visitor to this site is to give me some honest feedback on how I can improve what I have written, and maybe how to get it published.

But... to get started, I have to know where I am going to begin, so I am going to post a poll offering everyone here the chance to decide what I am going to work on first. My next post will give a brief synopsis of the stories I have started before and never finished, or maybe just ideas I had for stories that need to be researched or taken new places. So let me know what you think!

most people dont really get romance novels in the first place really. I absolutley love them and own a few *cough* of different them. Honestly, i absloutley love them, my parents tell me that i will end up warped one day cause i read so many. my boyfriend only likes them because i kinda read the... trashy ones. i guess youd say.

I have a problem with motivation too. and sometimes i will wear the story out by writing too much at one time.

good luck, i will read your story as it developes.

I call romance novels my "brain candy". Some of the greatest pieces of literature were once considered silly romance novels... Think of Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice... Indulging women's fantasies is a big business, or else we wouldn't have "Sex and the City"! LOL

I'm a stay at home mom too! I also love to write, but like you I also "stall". I really like these excerpts you've written! One book that has inspired me is Stephen Kings On Writing-he takes you step by step through the process-keep on writing!

a romance novel is better than no novel at all, that's for sure.

avoid using stephen king as a model. i read his book "on writing," and it's not something that anyone should use as a guide for their own writing. don't get me wrong, it's an interesting book, but it's not a "how to" guide for beginning writers. please read my blog entry on king and you'll understand.

now, about your dilemma about which story to continue, you can't leave that up to anyone but you. you have to decide which one you care about more, which characters are important to you, which story would you pick first if you had us over for lunch and were going to tell us the story from start to finish to see our faces as we enjoy it.

i've written three novels, but i haven't tried to publish any yet because i haven't felt they were good enough. the one i'm currently finishing, with the help of a professional editor, is finally something i feel strongly about, and that's one important key - how much do you care about that story, those characters? how excited are you when you sit down to type? that's the only way to decide which one to go with.

If only it were possible for me to give equal attention to them all! Some of these ideas have been germinating and growing in my mind for years, the characters have developed and become more like close friends as they have told me their story. Just because I have written more here or researched more there, I can't decide on my own. It's like trying to tell one of your children which one is your favorite, when you love them all. So I'm trying to make it a little more democratic and putting things to a vote is all!
